The first '6 for 5' International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) equipment grant of 2007 has gone to the Savusavu Junior Sailing Club in Fiji. To support a local project to build six wood/epoxy Optimists for use by local sailors, IODA is providing free sails, spars, buoyancy bags and all the metal bits.
This is the third such project in the South Pacific and the sixth worldwide. The wooden Optimist fulfilling its historic function of getting young people sailing in the 60th anniversary of the original design by Clark MILLS.
More than 200 Optimists have been sponsored under the IODA International Development Programme in the last five years, including new fleets in Libya and the Faroe Islands last year. You can find out more about last year’s successes and more info on the '6 for 5' scheme by CLICKING HERE.
