31 Entries To Caribbean Classic

Round Antigua Race

The Antigua Yacht Club hosted its annual race on 24 and 25 Jan. Thirty-one yachts entered the two day event which was sailed counter clockwise around the island from Falmouth to Jolly Harbour on the first day and clockwise to return the next day.
Five yachts from Guadeloupe joined in the fun, White Lady, Marina Bas du Fort Montebello, Feel Good, Timoe and Kalalou. Past record holder, Anthem, a Tripp 52, was back and participated but because of the light wind on the first day the record was never in danger of being broken. In face, due to light winds, the course on the first day had to be shorten at the diamond mark. The fleet sailed into Jolly Harbour Marina where sailors were met by marina manager, Festus ISSIAC, who generously donated free dockage for all participants in the race. A lovely party was organized by Tony and Tina SAYER from Castaways Beach Bar and the infamous Ms Round the Island contest got under way at about 9.30 p.m. Tim Thomas, from Yachting World, was crowned Queen for 2004.

Racing resumed on Sunday at noon so that people could recuperate from the party. The wind was back and it was a spinnaker run right to the bottom of Cades reef and a straight beat to the finish in Falmouth Harbour. In contrast to the day before, everyone was finished in 2 hours
